“16 to go” “We’re not mates” – John Terry fires back at James Maddison after Europa League final victory
Chelsea legend John Terry couldn’t resist a playful dig at James Maddison after Tottenham’s 1-0 Europa League final win over Manchester United.
Maddison, who missed the match due to injury, celebrated in full kit and later posted on Instagram: “From suit… to kit. Full @johnterry.26 mode. Anything to say tonight John?”
Terry responded the following morning with a classic jibe: “I remember my first trophy. Ah bless them. Get the tequila out. Great season from you boys, you should all be proud! 16 to go…”
He followed it up with another pointed comment: “After that performance I think you have a chance. You just have to live for 900 years.”
Terry famously celebrated in full kit – complete with shinpads – after Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2012, despite missing the final due to an ankle injury.
On his own kit swap, Maddison told TNT Sports: “They said I had to, to get the medal. I didn’t want to do a John Terry when he went on with full kit and shin pads, but what a special feeling.”
