Olympique Lyonnais and French U21 box-to-box midfielder Houssem Aouar has addressed rumours that he could be heading to Chelsea in the summer.
After being nurtured by the club’s famous academy — which has been responsible for producing some of Europe’s current top players including Alexandre Lacazette, Karim Benzema, and Corentin Tolisso — Aoaur started to realize the value of his ability, and n 2015, aged 17, he made his first appearance for Lyon B.
Two years later the first team came calling, with then-coach Bruno Genesio handing him his professional as a late substitute in the UEFA Europa League against AZ Alkmaar, and his performance that night got many at the club excited about just how god this lad could become.
In the 2017-2018 season, in the absence of Tolisso who had just moved to Bayern Munich, he made 31 starts in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, scoring seven goals and producing six assists — and the following season, his stock further increased as he made 44 appearances, scored seven goals, and made seven assists.
With the club seeking to add some much needed quality to their midfield and there willingness to give the talents in the game a chance to sign, reports have suggested that Frank Lampard has been impressed with Aouar this season and is ready to beat the likes of Juventus and Arsenal to a summer deal.
And amid all the transfer speculation linking the young man to Chelsea, he was quoted on TMW website: “For the time being, I really can’t think about anything but the present time. That means I’m only focused on what’s going to happen throughout the next few weeks, here with Lyon”.
