Frank Lampard need to sign a left-back in order to challenging for titles and Ben Chilwell could be the answer. After months and months of fighting for their transfer ban, Frank Lampard managed to get an early Christmas Present last year after it was revealed that the ban had been lifted, and Chelsea will be able to sign players again in the January window.
According to recent reports, Frank Lampard will reportedly try and sanction a £70 million deal to try and secure a deal for the very impressive Chilwell, who has become arguably the best left-sided defender in the Premier League right now.
Emerson Palmieri made a strong start to the campaign, but has been dealt with several injury problems and Chelsea have had to turn to Marcos Alonso, who you feel is not a particular favourite of Lampard’s. However, Cesar Azpilicueta has played in that position, despite being a right-back, while Reece James has also done a job on the left, so the Blues will need to go into their transfer kitty to try and acquire the services of a new left-back this month.
Meanwhile as we said, Chilwell has enhanced his reputation this season with a series of impressive displays for title-chasing Leicester and is one of the best full-backs in the top flight. However, Chelsea will have a fight on their hands if they wish to try and sign Chilwell this month as Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers recently admitted that he has no intention of letting his best players leave over the next few weeks.
But Rodgers has opened up and announced that the club will not be open to selling their best players during the winter window, telling the Sky Sports website: “There will be no one leaving in January. Categorically. Asked if that message had been passed down by the club’s hierarchy, he added: “No. But I’m sure if we speak that will be the case as well. “I speak regularly with John Rudkin [director of football] and Top [Leicester owner] but I haven’t spoken to them today on that.
“It’s pretty clear we want to keep this squad together, it’s a very exciting team with a lot of growth and development in it. So we want to make sure that they stay around and beyond January.”
Look, we all know that Chelsea will come all guns blazing in the January window as they need to improve, and although Rodgers does not want to lose his best players in the winter window, the right offer will get a transfer deal done. Football is all about the money these days, so how could a club like Leicester reject £70 million if it was placed on the table? The Answer is: they probably couldn’t.
