After failing to sign any player in the last two transfer windows, signings are expected this summer and some players will have to be sold or released to create space for new signings.
Here are 8 players Chelsea should sell this summer:
1. Willy Caballero: His contract expires at the end of the season and at 38, letting the Argentine goalkeeper leave the club will be the best decision.
2. Tiemoue Bakayoko: The Frenchman is currently on loan at Monaco after struggling in his first season at Stamford Bridge. He left the club on loan to AC Milan last season but the Italians refused to make the move permanent. Chelsea will be hoping Monaco make his move permanent.
3. Marcos Alonso: The Spaniard is one of the best left wing backs in the world when playing in a back three but he’s average in a back four. Lampard doesn’t trust him and has played Cesar Azpilicueta recently as left-back so it makes no sense to keep him at the club.
5. Danny Drinkwater: The Englishman is currently on loan at Aston Villa after failing to make an impact while on loan at Burnley in the first part of the season. Since joining from Leicester City, Drinkwater has failed to make an impact at Chelsea and failed to play any competitive game for Chelsea last season under Maurizio Sarri. Selling him is definitely the best option for everyone.
6. Ross Barkley: The Englishman is talented but consistency has hindered him from reaching his full potential. At 26, Barkley should be delivering more. It hasn’t worked out for him at Chelsea, selling him is the best option.
7. Pedro: His contract expires at the end of the season and his time at Chelsea has obviously come to an end. He hasn’t played much this season, so releasing him at the end of the season is the best option.
8. Michy Batshuayi: The Belgian is yet to start a Premier League game this season and it is obvious Lampard doesn’t rate him much. It’s time to let the Belgian leave Stamford Bridge. It hasn’t worked out for him at Chelsea.
9. Olivier Giroud: His contract expires at the end of the season and the Frenchman is expected to leave the club as a free agent after the club stopped him from leaving in January.
