Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has just given his weekly press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game with Newcastle, and as well as transfer updates and his thoughts on the match itself, he was asked for injury updates on the two first team players he’s currently missing.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been out since last May and Christian Pulisic has been struggling for a couple of weeks.
Both would be expected to play serious minutes in the first team if ready, and both seem to have a similar prognosis of a month more out at least.
Asked whether they still had roles to play this season, Lampard replied in quotes carried by Football.London:
“Yeah, we’d like to think so. Towards the break in February.
Ruben is training with the U16s, U18s and then the U23s in a short space of time. Which is good for us. We will work every way.”
Pulisic was match fit before his issue and should be able to slot in fairly quickly. RLC will take a while to get up to speed, but once he’s ready, he can hopefully return for the final weeks of the season to make a splash.
