‘Best signing of the Marina era’- Many Chelsea fans react sarcastically to club tweet

Many Chelsea fans reacted to a post from the club’s official Twitter account wishing Blues flop Danny Drinkwater a happy birthday.

The former England international has only scored 1 goal in 23 appearances for the London club. Drinkwater has also played for a number of sides including Burnley, Huddersfield Town, Manchester United, Watford and Leicester City. He notably won the Premier League with the Foxes but didn’t feature in a single game for Chelsea in the Premier League last season.

The midfielder is currently enjoying a spell on-loan at Aston Villa with his contract with the Blues due to expire in 2022. Drinkwater’s market value is estimated at £5.40m and it remains to be seen whether or not the board will allow him to leave in the summer.

Obviously the club’s tweet prompted loads of hilarious reactions from the Stamford Bridge faithful, with one tongue-in-cheek comment suggesting the 30-year-old is the “best signing of the Marina era.” Take a look at some of the funniest reactions down below…

@brozonedvic: Contract termination and a pastry would be nice gifts.
@WorldWideCheIs: One of the best Chelsea’s signings in their history for on and off the pitch reasons. #CFC
@ChelseaJF5: So glad we signed him instead of Mahrez. What a signing.
