Willian reveals why he didn’t leave Chelsea for Man United

Chelsea star Willian has insisted he never said he wished to leave the club during the last summer.

The winger was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United with Jose Mourinho said to be keen on signing him.

Some reports even claimed the transfer was inevitable and there was no way Willian would stay at Stamford Bridge.

The rumoured source of the problem Antonio Conte left however and so the Brazilian ended up remaining with his current employers.

He has since denied United ever made an official move for him and now he has claimed he never desired to leave in the first place.

According to Metro, Willian said: “A lot of people they say a lot of things in the press, but I never said that I want to leave Chelsea, never.

“Always I say that I want to stay at Chelsea as long as possible, and I am happy to stay here.

“When I arrive here my plan was to stay here as long as possible and now I am here five years I hope stay five more!

“I know I have two years of contract left but I hope to stay more years in the Premier League.”

Willian would’ve been a solid addition to the Red Devils’ squad but not at the expense of Anthony Martial as reported.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk man would’ve actually been Mourinho’s only natural right-sided option.

Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have both played in that role alternatively but it’s safe to say they aren’t as comfortable there as they are in other positions.

Both are more creative and prefer to feature behind the strike so Willian would’ve been a welcome change to an area on the pitch that’s been a little bit of a problem at times.
