Four players who could make Chelsea title contenders as Blues ready for summer deals

Every year Chelsea don’t really challenge for the Premier League title but they always challenge for trophies. However, it has been three years since they last won the league and including this season it will be four years.

So far under Thomas Tuchel, things have looked very good. However, we have often seen that clubs tend to do well under interim managers. In other words, currently, Chelsea are in their honeymoon period under Tuchel. Roman Abramovich would want this honeymoon period to continue.

Thus Chelsea could again spend big in the transfer window. Right now they have a good squad but they are not yet ready to challenge for the Premier League. Chelsea will have to add more players to challenge for the Premier League. On this note let’s take a look at four players who could make Chelsea Premier League title contenders.

#1 Jerome Boateng to Chelsea: First thing first, Chelsea will have to improve their defence if they want to challenge for the title. Last season defence was a big problem for Frank Lampard. In the next season, he decided to spend big on attacking talent. But now they will have to spend on defenders. Jerome Boateng is one such player whom they can sign next summer.

The German is out of contact with Bayern Munich next season. He is now a free agent, though he may not be at his best but he can still get the job done. Boateng is an experienced player, he has won it all in the world of football. He can have a good impact in the short term like Thiago Silva and guide other young talents at the club.

#2 David Alaba to Chelsea: Last season Bayern Munich won the Champions League and David Alaba was a key part of it. If Chelsea wants to win big trophies they will have to get the best players available to them. The Austrian is one of the best and most versatile defenders in world football. He broke into Bayern’s first team at a very young age and now he is at his peak at the age of 28. Like his teammate Jermone Boetang he will be a free agent in the summer.

Chelsea have been linked with a move to sign him but they will face competition. Perhaps Roman Abramovich’s involvement might convince him to join the Blues. Chelsea can use him as a left-back, centre-back, and even as a midfielder. Chelsea still have some fringe players and they can be sold to accommodate Alaba.

#3 Gianluigi Donnarumma: There are very few players in the history of football who at the age of 22 have played more than 200 games for a historic club like AC Milan. Donnarumma is one such player, he broke into AC Milan’s first team at the age of 16. Since then he hasn’t looked back and he has continued to develop his game. Just asAlaba and Boateng, he is also a free agent in the summer.

Currently, Chelsea have Edu Mendy as the first choice. He has impressed and is certainly an upgrade to Kepa Arrizabalega but Chelsea still need a world-class goalkeeper. Donnarumma is just 22 years old and he is still developing. It is not every day that such a young player is available on a free transfer. The Italian can be the true heir to Petr Cech in the long term at Chelsea.

#4 Erling Haaland: Another young prodigy who is making headlines in the world of football. After joining Dortmund he has been improving his game and scoring goals. Since the departure of Diego Costa, Chelsea has sorely missed a goalscorer. Haaland hardly shies away from his goal-scoring duties. Not only this, he has stepped up for Dortmund in the big games like against Bayern Munich and Sevilla.

Raiola demands huge wages from Erling Haaland next club for summer move
Though it is possible that he might struggle in the Premier League but considering his quality he should be able to add 12-15 goals. Though this won’t Chelsea title contenders, Timon Werner can fill in that gap if Haaland struggles. In the long run, he would a fantastic addition to Chelsea. According to reports Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich himself wants to bring Haaland to Stamford Bridge.

Conclusion:
The money will not necessarily buy Chelsea the Premier League but it will certainly get them closer to it. By spending big money on the right players they can challenge for the Premier League title in the long run. Currently, at Chelsea, they have a lot of quality players and in at least two years time they should be challenging for the Premier League title.

Tuchel seems to like a fine manager and his opinion on recruitment will be crucial. Last season, Frank Lampard did not want Timo Werner and Kai Havetz but Chelsea still signed these players. As a result of which Lampard was forced to alter his team and eventually he was sacked. Chelsea should learn from their previous mistakes to get Tuchel the players he wants rather than the ones they want for themselves.
