“Not Jorginho” Sarri to sign Chelsea midfielder, as Mourinho wants Chelsea outcast

Maurizio Sarri is soon expected to be confirmed as new manager of Lazio, as he’s currently without a job.

The former Chelsea boss left the club for Juventus in 2019, and lasted just one season in charge of Juventus before being sacked in August 2020.

Sarri will be tasked with helping Lazio push for a top four finish, after ending the past season in 6th place and 23 points off champions Inter Milan.

Maurizio Sarri has compiled a list of players he would like to work with at Lazio, and the main man on his list is Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Loftus-Cheek will be the first player to be targeted by Sarri upon resumption as Lazio manager.

The 25-year-old has looked short of confidence since suffering a long-term injury just before the Europa League final.

Loftus-Cheek put in his best Chelsea performance under Sarri and was even hailed by Owen Hargreaves as an unstoppable force at the time.

Sarri believes he can bring back the Chelsea midfielder to his best form, and Lazio will soon ask Chelsea to sign the player on loan with the the option to buy at the end of the season for a pre-agreed fee.

If there’s one thing transfer rumour writers like, it’s linking players with managers who have signed them before, or have managed them at a previous club.

Jose Mourinho wants Chelsea outcast

Jose Mourinho never used Tammy Abraham in a first team game, but he will have known all about him from his second spell at Chelsea, and from watching the Blues as Spurs manager and as a pundit in the last couple of years.

Mourinho is now Roma manager, and the Daily Star yesterday reported that the Portuguese coach is pushing to sign Abraham as a striking option for his new team.

With Edin Dzeko looking set to leave, we can see Tammy slotting in as a great replacement. It would be a big step to move abroad, but we back Tammy to be the right character, and a good enough player, to make it work.

Of course, we all want him to stay – but that’s not looking likely any more.
