‘Prefect response! as Lukaku reacted to what Tottenham fans did to him in Chelsea 2-0 win over Spurs
Ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, all the focus was on Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as many wondered the kind of reception he would get from the fans at Stamford Bridge following his controversial interview with Sky Italia in which he discussed a return to Inter Milan.
However, Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in a Carabao Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues totally dominated our London rivals with a goal from Kai Havertz and an own goal from Ben Davies secured the victory for the Blues.
The Blues striker apologised to Chelsea fans in the build-up to the game and he received a positive reaction from Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
However, Tottenham Hotspur fans tried to get into the head of Lukaku during the game as they chanted: “He’s Inter Milan, he’s Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku, he’s Inter Milan.”
In response, Chelsea’s No.9 turned around to the crowd in the shed end and silenced them with a wry grin on his face following Chelsea’s second goal of the evening.
Meanwhile, Lukaku has apologised to Thomas Tuchel, his team-mates and Chelsea supporters for his controversial interview with Italian media outlet Sky Italia.
“To the fans I’m sorry for the upset that I caused,” Lukaku said.
“You guys know the connection that I have with this club, since my teenage years, so you know, I totally understand you guys being upset.
“Obviously it’s up to me now to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground to make sure that we win games.
“And also to the manager to my team-mates and the board because I think it was not the right moment also. And I want to move forward from this and make sure that we start winning football games and I perform for the team in the best manner.”
