As the Gonzalo Higuain’s transfer to Chelsea is reportedly hours away from the completion, Metro speculates on a shirt number that the Argentine will wear at Stamford Bridge.
At all his previous clubs since he left Real Madrid in 2013 – which include Napoli, Juventus and Milan, as well as in the national team – Gonzalo has worn No. 9 on his shirt.
While Alvaro Morata is a current holder of the number at Chelsea, his transfer to Atletico Madrid is nearing a final stage as well, so it’s safe to assume that Higuain will be a new Blues’ No. 9.
Meanwhile, Metro points out that in the last 15 years, Chelsea’s number nines have scored just 36 Premier League goals combined.
Torres was probably the biggest and the most infamous victim of the curse, scoring just 20 Premier League goals in 110 appearances for the Blues, while previously he had scored 65 times in four seasons for Liverpool.
However, other Chelsea’s No. 9’s were huge flops as well.
Do you think Higuain will break the curse of our number 9.
