‘Make this signing and you’re good to go’… Jamie Redknapp tells Chelsea to make one signing after what happened against Newcastle

Pundit Jamie Redknapp believes there is one signing Chelsea absolutely have to make after watching them play last night.

He told Sky Sports that a striker is definitely needed at the club, and has named one player in particular they should go and get when the window opens again.

Chelsea were far from their best for most of last night’s EFL Cup tie against Newcastle United, however they did book their place in the semi-finals in dramatic style.

A late Mykhailo Mudryk goal forced the game into a penalty shootout, which the Blues won thanks to a super save from Djordje Petrovic.

Chelsea were in control of nearly all the possession, however didn’t look like scoring until a big error at the back.

Redknapp has now claimed that the Blues need to add to their firepower up top, naming Ivan Toney as a potential target.

Redknapp tells Chelsea to sign Toney

He said: “There are still more questions than answers when I watch Chelsea at the moment. I look at that squad and they have spent a billion pounds and still don’t have a number nine. I can’t take Chelsea seriously until they do. They are missing something so big in that area.

“They have these wide players, but they need a number nine, they need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net and until they do I think they are going to struggle.

“They are hard to find. If you look at strikers out there, Ivan Toney is obviously one you are going to go for, but how much is he going to cost? There’s not many, they are a tough breed to find but that’s exactly what they need.”

Toney is likely to be on the move in January if Brentford receive a big offer for his services.

The Blues are not the only team linked with a move, with Arsenal also reportedly considering making a bid for him.
