‘One to watch’: 22-year-old Chelsea star could leave club on deadline day
David Ornstein has now tipped a Chelsea player to be the one to watch in the final hours of the January transfer window.
He told The Athletic Transfer Briefing podcast that he believes a deal could be struck for Armando Broja if one Premier League side are keen on completing the deal.
Broja is reportedly up for sale for the right price this month, although it has been claimed that £50m reported fee has some wiggle room.
Fulham and Wolves have been leading the interest in him, with the latter having a bid rejected yesterday for a straight loan.
It has been claimed their West-London rivals could be the best possible chance of him finding a new home, with Ornstein hinting that the funds could be available for him.
He said: “My one to watch on this occasion is going to be Armando Broja. He is available to leave Chelsea on a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy.
Broja one to watch
“Chelsea value him at about £50m perhaps as the deadline draws closer, there may be a bit of flexibility on that price.
“There’s been interest from the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham, Fulham. Wolves actually had a bit with a straight loan, maybe with an option to buy, I’m not sure exactly, rejected.
“That draws our attention towards Fulham. Reports emerged on Tuesday that Fulham were going to give it a last-ditch go.
“Then Fulham played and they suffered an injury to Raul Jimenez, a hamstring problem that could keep him out for a period of time.
“And immediately you think that Fulham are going to go for Broja, and that’s one we’re going to have to keep a very close eye on.
“I do hear that they have got some funds, I’m not sure they’ve spent all if any of the Aleksandar Mitrovic money following his transfer to the Saudi Pro League.
“But there’s a bit left to run in this yet, who knows if others will step forward because strikers are in short supply and he’s one that’s on the market.”
It has been claimed the club are happy to sell Broja despite the fact that it would leave them with just Nicolas Jackson as a recognised striker at Stamford Bridge.
The Senegal international should be back in the squad tonight to face Liverpool at Anfield
