Fabrizio Romano: Midfielder “On His Way To Medical” today ahead of his Chelsea move
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Omari Kellyman, an attacking midfielder for Aston Villa, is “on his way to [a] medical” before joining Chelsea for £19 million.
Romano reported on X that the young player will sign a six-year contract with the Blues, with an additional one-year option.
With only 6 professional games in his career to date, Kellyman’s transfer cost has drawn a lot of attention.
Nonetheless, the 18-year-old is a highly esteemed young player, and many think he has what it takes to succeed in the game.
What type of player will Chelsea be signing?
Some have drawn comparisons between Kellyman and former Blues forward Kai Havertz. While he does prefer to play in the pocket behind a main striker, he can also be deployed as a false nine or on either wing.
He is left-footed so he is more effective on the right flank as he can cut inside and shoot from that side of the pitch. It remains to be seen whether he will become part of Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad straight away.
The likes of Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka also prefer to play as a No.10.
Another teenager could sign for the club after Kellyman
It is believed that Chelsea have now offered a contract to Barcelona’s Marc Guiu. The forward has a €6m (£5.1m) release clause in his contract so there is no need to negotiate with his current team.
There were some reports suggesting that the Spaniard would be a ‘Blueco’ signing, meaning he would join feeder side Strasbourg instead, but it is believed he will move to Stamford Bridge if the transfer goes ahead. Of course, that doesn’t rule out the possibility that he could subsequently be loaned out.
