Lesley Ugochukwu will not be playing for Chelsea at the Olympics; instead, they will be keeping him for their preseason preparations.
The Athletic claims that in order to aid in his development, the club intends to loan him to another Premier League team.
Ugochukwu was a member of Thierry Henry’s Olympic preliminary team, but following a season-ending hamstring injury, he will now concentrate on his recuperation and possible loan move.
Because the Olympic Games fall outside of FIFA’s timeframe, clubs are free to forbid their players from competing.
Chelsea intend to send Ugochukwu on loan this summer and his participation in the Olympics might hinder their plans.
Ugochukwu featured 15 times under Mauricio Pochettino last season, but his season was ruined by a hamstring injury.
