“I want to show the fans am ready to play” “Wants to surpass Cole Palmer” – Chelsea star reveals ahead of new season

Although Christopher Nkunku said that being hurt last summer saddened him much, he has moved past it and is solely focused on the future.

When Nkunku arrived from Bundesliga team RB Leipzig in a £52 million move last summer, there was a lot of excitement.

The 26-year-old had a fantastic preseason debut before suffering a knee injury in the tour’s last game that sidelined him for four months.

Nkunku only looking forward
The France international would have to wait until December to make his debut, but further injury issues at the start of the season limited him to just 14 appearances in all competitions.

Nkunku had a well earned rest over the summer and has come back for pre-season looking refreshed and revitalised.

He’s made a brilliant start, scoring three goals in as many games so far and will be hoping to continue that run against Manchester City on Saturday.

This is a big season for Nkunku and he seems perfectly suited to Maresca’s system given his versatility across the attacking positions.

Speaking ahead of the City game Nkunku admitted he was very disappointed to get injured last summer given how excited he was for the season.

“I was very disappointed [last summer getting injured], I was so excited to start the season. But it’s behind me now. I just want to look forward now,” he told reporters.
The Frenchman is one of few players at Chelsea who possesses genuine world class quality and everyone associated with the club will be hoping he can stay fit next season.
