“I went crazy” – See why Victor Osimhen sacks agent after failing to secure Chelsea transfer
According to Il Mattino (via TMW), Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly fired his agent, Roberto Calenda, during a drawn-out transfer drama that saw the Nigerian international fail to land a move to Chelsea.
Calenda’s handling of discussions, which Osimhen reportedly thought to be incompetent, is claimed to have infuriated him, particularly with regard to his attempts to arrange a permanent exit from Napoli.
The forward, dissatisfied with the lack of advancement, reportedly took matters into his own hands and negotiated his loan move to Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray without the aid of an agent.
On transfer deadline day, Osimhen was heavily linked with moves to both Al Ahli and Chelsea, but neither deal materialised.
Calenda faced intense criticism on social media, with many blaming him for the collapsed negotiations.
In the wake of the failed transfers, it is understood that Osimhen enlisted Turkish intermediary George Gardi to facilitate discussions with Galatasaray.
The eventual deal agreed upon was a straight loan until the end of the season, with a break clause in January should a top European club come calling.
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, but his recent decision to part ways with Calenda suggests that he is determined to take control of his career and keep his options open for a potential move to a top European side.
