Another Chelsea star withdraws from International duty. Returns to Chelsea
Cole Palmer, a prominent player for Chelsea, has decided not to travel with the England national team this international break. Instead, he will spend the remaining time at the Cobham training facility.
Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins have all returned to their respective clubs and will not play for England in the next Nations League matches, the country has stated.
The Republic of Ireland will be the opponent of England on Saturday in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. Three days later, England will host Finland at Wembley.
After Gareth Southgate decided to resign following Euro 2024 earlier this summer, Lee Carsley will take over as temporary head coach.
England have confirmed that the trio of Cole Palmer, Phil Foden or Watkins have been dropped from the squad to face the Republic of Ireland and Finland due to fitness challenge and they won’t call up players to replace them.
“Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Phil Foden will play no part in England’s forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures,” a statement read.
“The Three Lions squad reported to St George’s Park on Tuesday but, following assessment, both Palmer and Watkins returned to their clubs to continue rehabilitation for ongoing issues.
“Foden did not report through illness and is ruled out of the matches against Republic of Ireland and Finland.”
