“He convinced them” -Robert Sanchez thanks Chelsea star for what he did in Bournemouth penalty miss

Christopher Nkunku’s strike in the 86th minute proved to be the difference as Chelsea emerged from St Mary’s Stadium with all three points.

If Evanilson had been successful with his penalty kick, the game might have been different.

The Bournemouth players could be seen debating who should take the penalty kick after it was given. Unexpectedly, Cole Palmer was among them, attempting to penetrate their minds, which ultimately proved successful.

Evanilson missed his penalty kick, as Robert Sanchez guessed the right way.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp revealed the impact Palmer’s gesture had on the Bournemouth players.

“Some managers I’ve worked with – Gerard Houllier was one – felt if you got fouled, he never wanted you to take the penalty. You’re just not in the right frame of mind,” Jamie Redknapp said on the penalty incident.

“The Bournemouth players were having a chat about it… Palmer is trying to get into peoples’ heads, ‘are you going to take it?’.

“Having a little discussion about it, trying to get into his head, all part of the psychology of football.

“Be interesting to see how good his [Evanilson’s] English is. He hasn’t been here that long, he probably doesn’t understand Cole Palmer! He got the gist of it I’m sure!”
