“He’s the cause of our loss” – Andoni Iraola reveals who to blame for Bournemouth defeat to Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku’s strike in the 86th minute proved to be the difference as Chelsea emerged from St Mary’s Stadium with all three points.

Although the game wasn’t particularly physical, referee Anthony Taylor recorded a Premier League record by issuing 14 yellow cards in a single game. If you count the yellow card given to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, that number rises to 15.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola insisted that his team deserved to defeat Chelsea instead of criticizing referee Anthony Taylor after he issued a Premier League record-tying 14 yellow cards.

After his team missed a penalty kick, struck the crossbar, then struck the post, Iraola was shocked that his team had lost. Goalie Robert Sanchez making some good saves as well.

“Within 14, first yellows? Quite easy first yellows and then second yellows? Not easy but I will not focus on the referee. It hasn’t worked before so I will try not to focus on that,” Iraola stated.

“I think we were the better team and deserve probably to win, but when you are against this kind of opposition and miss a penalty, hit the crossbar, hit the post, miss more chances, their keeper is good, you can think that at one moment in the game they will hurt us and it happened at the end.”

Bournemouth indeed were the better side in the first-half, but Chelsea’s second-half display was much better, and the difference in quality separated both sides at the end.
