“I will start him over him” “He’s so clinical” – Ashley Cole urges Enzo Maresca to start 26-years-old Chelsea star over 23-year-old man as Fans reacted
Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has pushed Enzo Maresca to play Christopher Nkunku over Nicolas Jacskon, citing the attacker’s ability to create opportunities in the box and score goals.
“He’s so clinical and a great player, Jackson is also good but Nkunku has the potential to makes things happen whenever he gets the chance in the box 18” ; Ashely Cole elaborated.
“Immediate Nkunku was sub against Nottingham forest you can see his impact tin the game and he almost score…he needs to be starting some crucial games”
However, Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku has stated that he accepts his duty as a substitute for the time being.
The 26-year-old was called up for France’s games against Israel and Belgium this week, despite not being a regular starter at club level. When asked about his situation by L’Equipe, Nkunku replied:
“I try to perform as well as possible, whether I start or not. Afterwards, there is a coach at the club who makes his choices and we have to accept them.”
Nkunku is doing all he can to get more minutes
The France international is the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season, having scored 7 – one more than Cole Palmer.
However, only one of those has come in the Premier League, with the rest being scored in the Carabao Cup and the Conference League.
Considering that most of Nkunku’s minutes have come in the latter two competitions, you can’t really expect much more from him. He is doing everything possible to push for starts in the league.
A Chelsea teammate is favoured by Maresca
Nicolas Jackson remains in possession of the jersey for now. The Senegalese international has started the campaign strongly so there is no reason for the manager to drop him at the moment.
There is clearly a lot of competition for the coveted No.9 role and that can only be a good thing for the team.
Fans on X are split on whether head coach Enzo Maresca should be starting Nkunku:
@thisis_cfcj: Boy needs to be a starter. So clinical
@QUEENOFDBLUES1: Nkunku should know Enzo Maresca is trying to protect him and the sub role is good for him considering his injuries last season.
@LuxuryQuotes01: The problem of maresca is that he didn’t give Nkunku the chance instead he prefer to use Jackson ahead of him, and that’s ridiculous
@Curtis_peprah: He starts in Europe
@Duke_Of_Pokot: He should even start before Nico Jackson
@Dark_Chris_1989: I’m really worried he’ll want to move away next summer if he doesn’t become a regular starter.
@SireMcKnight: I don’t see how he is gonna start ahead Jackson. He is a good player but not someone to bench Jackson
