Finally, as England manager Thomas Tuchel can now use player he never wanted Chelsea to sell in new position

The FA stated on Wednesday that Thomas Tuchel has been named as England’s next head coach, and the former Chelsea manager does have some experience with English players.

Thomas Tuchel is only the third non-English manager to lead England’s national team, after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

When rumors of Tuchel’s appointment in England circulated earlier this week, Chelsea fans were ecstatic. It is now definite that the German coach will begin his new post on January 1, 2025.

Thomas Tuchel can finally use Tino Livramento

English players up and down the country will be wondering what the Tuchel appointment means for them. For example, what will Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento be thinking?

Newcastle right-back Livramento, 21, has been with England’s main squad in the last couple of camps. However, he’s still waiting to make his senior debut.

He was an exciting academy prospect at Chelsea when Tuchel arrived to manage at Stamford Bridge in January 2021. However, he never played in the Blues first team and was sold permanently to Southampton in the summer of 2021.

Interestingly, Tuchel later shared that he never wanted Chelsea to sell Livramento, and his plan was to loan him out.

Tuchel said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel in April 2022: “For Tino Livramento, for example, we had a plan and we [would] have preferred a loan, but he saw his future [differently and decided] to go. The situation was then it was better to agree to a sale.”

England options at right-back
We’re certainly intrigued to see how Tuchel interprets England’s right-back position.

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker has been the first choice in that spot for several tournament now. Has he finally been overtaken by Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, though?

On top of that, Man City’s versatile youngster Rico Lewis has broken into the England scene and can play right-back. Does the change of management bring Arsenal’s Ben White back into the picture as well?

Chelsea supporters will be hoping that their captain Reece James can once again play for his country. It would be some sight if him and Tuchel are reunited with England. For now, the Blues right-back can only think about his club form and trying to stay fit after such a poor run of injuries.

There’s then the interesting case of Livramento and his possible partnership with Tuchel.

We’d guess that the Newcastle full-back is someway down the pecking order right now to start for England, but Tuchel’s previous comments may give him a lift.
