“He’s in big trouble” – £39m man’s Chelsea career is in big trouble After Enzo Maresca’s Conference League starting XI
As usual, Chelsea made the necessary adjustments as they moved from Premier League play to the Conference League once more.
Despite making eleven changes to their starting lineup, the Blues were able to defeat Panathinaikos 4-1 on the road to take the top spot in the European standings.
With all four members of Chelsea’s rotating frontline helping to score a goal, the attackers once again stole the show.
Mykhailo Mudryk’s performance particularly pleased Chelsea fans, and Joao Felix’s outstanding performance served as another reminder of his talent.
There was a new-look back four on show too last night, with Renato Veiga playing centre-back for the first time, and Axel Disasi on the right of defence.
Worries for Axel Disasi’s Chelsea career
Enzo Maresca was thrilled with Veiga’s display out of position, suggesting there could be a future for him at the heart of defence.
Despite the fact he started last night, this is bad news for Disasi.
Chelsea are blessed with quality at right-back at the moment, with both their options looking as if they are close to full fitness again.
Disasi unlikely to feature at right-back for Chelsea regularly
Reece James and Malo Gusto didn’t travel to Greece, however are going to be involved in a fierce competition for minutes in the coming weeks and months providing they stay injury free.
This means Disasi is unlikely to feature in this role much at all this season, and even when he started there against Bournemouth a few weeks ago he did little to impress.
He is comfortably behind James and Gusto in the pecking order there, and if the contract situation with Josh Acheampong can be sorted he is likely to sit behind him too.
There looks to be little space for the Frenchman at this stage, and the £39m signing from just over a year ago looks somewhat surplus to requirements at this stage.
