Liverpool plots shock move for 21-years-old Chelsea star in January
Chelsea’s talented fullback, Malo Gusto, has reportedly caught the attention of Liverpool as the Reds prepare for a possible future without Trent Alexander-Arnold. With Alexander-Arnold’s contract set to expire in June, Liverpool are exploring options to strengthen their
Mick Brown, a former scout for clubs including Manchester United, has weighed in on Liverpool’s interest in the France international.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown explained, “Liverpool are making plans for if they lose Trent Alexander-Arnold. They have to have these conversations about where to go to find a replacement.”
Although Liverpool have academy graduate Conor Bradley, who has impressed when given opportunities, Brown believes Gusto remains a high-priority target. He said, “They have Conor Bradley, who has done exceptionally well when called upon, and he will be an important part of their plans. But Gusto is very highly rated, and he is someone like their scout who has kept an eye on this season.”
At Chelsea, Gusto has struggled to establish himself as a guaranteed starter, largely due to the presence of first-choice right-back Reece James. This dynamic could play a significant role in Liverpool’s pursuit, according to Brown.
“He’s not a given starter at Chelsea either, as when Reece James returns from injury, there’s a good chance he’ll end up on the sidelines. So that gives Liverpool the chance to offer him regular game time, and they will think that could be enough to tempt him to move.”
As things stand, Chelsea may face a battle to retain the young fullback if Liverpool make an enticing offer, particularly with the prospect of greater playing time potentially luring Gusto to Anfield.
