Chelsea will travel to Old Trafford to face off against Manchester United on Sunday with a positive result on their minds. The Pensioners will have to control the game from the get-go if they want to come away with maximum points from the Theatre of Dreams. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made some decent summer acquisitions to bolster his Man United backline and so it won’t be easy for the Pensioners to get a victory tomorrow.
Frank Lampard is expected to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and might hand Christian Pulisic his first Premier League start against the mighty reds of Manchester.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Kepa Arrizabalaga will operate as Lampard’s first-choice keeper on Sunday evening hoping to come away with a clean sheet from Old Trafford. The centre-back duo of Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma will support the Spanish shot-stopper as they try to keep things tidy at the back. Cesar Azpilicueta will operate as the right-back while Emerson Palmieri looks to make some darting runs down the left-wing.
Antonio Rudiger is a major doubt for this contest and will be in for a late fitness test to decide whether he can get involved against the Red Devils. Marcos Alonso will have to be content with a place on Lampard’s bench this weekend.
Midfield
Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic will act as the anchormen in midfield as they try to retain possession at the centre of the park and create some decent openings going forward. Lampard might choose to go with the talented trio of Christian Pulisic, Ross Barkley and Pedro tomorrow. They will be responsible for doing most of the damage in the opposition half as Tammy Abraham does not have the proven track record of scoring goals consistently in the Premier League.
Barkley enjoyed an excellent preseason and so he would be confident about his chances of getting a goal on Sunday evening.
Attack
Tammy Abraham will spearhead Lampard’s attack up top. He will be expected to put in a decent shift and be a major aerial threat inside the Man United penalty box. Olivier Giroud will be available on the Chelsea bench and might get a chance to make an impact during the game if required.
