Chalobah sends strong message to Noni Madueke after stealing his goal against Wolves
Trevoh Chalobah will be delighted with how his first appearance of the season for Chelsea went.
Following his recall from Crystal Palace, Trevoh Chalobah started in Chelsea‘s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, helping them to win 3-1.
Defensively, he was immaculate. Alan Smith praised Chalobah after one tackle the central defender made in the first half, while he almost came close to scoring in the second.
Noni Madueke turned in his goal-bound header and has now revealed what his teammate said to him.
Trevoh Chalobah could not believe Noni Madueke took his goal in Chelsea’s latest win
Had Chalobah’s header reached the back of the net and Chelsea have kept a clean sheet, it would have been the perfect homecoming for the 25-year-old.
Madueke, though, could not resist latching onto Chalobah’s effort, which left his teammate telling him: “No way you took my goal!”
“I’m always happy to score goals, especially somewhat easy ones like that!” Madueke said. “It’s attacker’s instinct. I think I knew it was going over the line, and I said sorry to Trev after. An assist on his first game back is great for him, but I had to put it in the net!
“He’s my brother! He was saying, ‘no way you took my goal, no way you took my goal’, but I said, ‘bro, you have to understand this is what they pay me to do!’”
Chalobah does not have to be too disappointed, however, as his overall performance was solid. Madueke praised Chalobah after the game, describing him as “unbelievable”.
Trevoh Chalobah’s numbers vs Wolves
Madueke is not wrong to laud Chalobah and the centre-back’s stats against Vitor Pereira’s side back that up.
For example, Chalobah made seven clearances during the game, which was more than any other Chelsea player, while he was also not dribbled past once. Some of his attacking numbers were also very impressive for a defender.
Again, then, the Chelsea academy graduate was solid and is already justifying the Blues’ decision to recall him.
You now have to question why the likes of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile are rated higher at the club.
Looking at some of their displays this season, one of the French duo should have been forced out of Cobham last summer, not Chalobah.
Maybe that is just hindsight, but Disasi and Badiashile have never convinced in blue, while Chalobah has under both Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel. He is now doing so under Maresca, who must be glad to have him back at the club.
