“Don’t be scared to bench him” “Good decisions” – Zola sends clear message to Enzo Maresca after 2-1 win over West Ham
Gianfranco Zola, who played and coached Chelsea in the past, has responded to Enzo Maresca’s choice to sit No.1 Robert Sanchez due to his recent poor performance.
The Spanish goalkeeper was not included in the starting lineup for their Premier League match against West Ham on Monday.
For a while, Chelsea fans had been asking for Robert Sanchez to be benched, and on Monday night, their wish was finally fulfilled when Enzo Maresca chose Filip Jorgensen instead.
However, the under-21 international from Denmark was not entirely convincing; he did not make any major errors but was unable to prevent Jarrod Bowen’s goal.
In the meantime, Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola admired Enzo Maresca’s response to Robert Sanchez’s recent struggles.
“He has been brave changing the goalkeeper. I think Maresca is making the decisions that need to be made. Things are going in the right direction” Zola says
“You can’t always play perfect football. Sometimes in games like this, in tough moments, you need to get somrething out of it and I think they will get a lot of confidence out of this.” He added…
Meanwhile, Chelsea climbed two points above Manchester City and Newcastle in the competition to secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Since 2013, it was the first instance of them securing three points in a home league match after being behind at halftime.
After Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea manager, expressed concern that his players were being distracted by the transfer window, Chelsea’s second victory in eight league games was a much-needed morale boost for him.
