BREAKING: Roman Abramovich receive Chelsea fans clear message after FA Cup defeat to Brighton
Chelsea’s FA Cup journey came to an abrupt end with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton, and frustrated fans made their feelings clear by chanting the name of former owner Roman Abramovich in the aftermath of the loss.
The Blues started the match on a positive note, taking an early lead in the fifth minute after a Brighton own goal gifted them the advantage. However, the hosts responded quickly, equalising just seven minutes later before sealing the win with a second-half strike.
Despite their bright start, Chelsea struggled to create meaningful chances as the game progressed, failing to register a single shot on target in the second half. This lack of attacking threat further fuelled the frustration among the Stamford Bridge faithful.
The loss marks a significant low point for the club, as it is only the third time in the past 28 years that Chelsea has failed to reach the FA Cup round of 16—a competition where they have traditionally excelled.
Following the final whistle, the discontent among supporters spilled over, with chants of “Roman Abramovich” echoing through the stands. The fans’ nostalgic calls reflected their dissatisfaction with the club’s current leadership under Clearlake Capital, headed by American businessman Todd Boehly.
Abramovich, who owned Chelsea from 2003 until 2022, was forced to sell the club due to sanctions imposed over his alleged ties to the Russian government. During his tenure, Chelsea experienced one of the most successful periods in their history, winning five Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies among numerous other honors.
Since the ownership transition, Chelsea has struggled to find consistent form, and the latest FA Cup elimination only deepens concerns about the club’s direction under the new regime. As the Blues continue to falter in both domestic and European competitions, pressure is mounting on the current management to turn things around and restore Chelsea to their former glory.
