“He’s far better than Enzo Maresca” “Is better to have him at Chelsea” – Chelsea fans wants former Chelsea manager to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea after what he did in 2-1 win over Fulham
Maresca felt Chelsea supporters’ wrath during that game, with some close to the press box expressing their anger towards him.
And there are no signs of that relationship improving after fans were heard chanting the name of one of the club’s ex-managers at Craven Cottage.
Chelsea fans heard chanting Frank Lampard’s name
While not everything is going to plan for Maresca at the moment, former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is excelling at Coventry City.
And it looks like some Chelsea supporters are now missing the 46-year-old, who has had two spells in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
According to journalist Bobby Vincent, some Blues fans were chanting Lampard‘s name for at least five whole minutes during the Fulham game, though that was before the visitors took the lead.
Lampard could have to come up against Chelsea next season, with Coventry in contention to make the Championship play-offs.
Lampard’s side are currently sixth in the table with just a few games to go in English football’s second division.
Pedro Neto on his goal
Neto has eased the pressure on Maresca with his sensational goal against Fulham. Because of it, Chelsea have moved up to fifth in the Premier League table and will remain there if Nottingham Forest lose against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.
Neto spoke about his goal after the game and said: “When I received the ball, I just span around and shot as hard as I can. The ball went in. The first one, [Bernd] Leno did an unbelievable save and I was so frustrated that the second one I had to put all the power into the shot.”
It was only his fourth in the top flight this season, but with such ability, the Portuguese really should be on more.
Maresca will just be glad that he scored. Had Neto’s shot not gone in, who knows how fans and the club’s owners would have reacted?
Maresca’s job looked safe heading into the match, but more points dropped would have raised serious questions.
