Pep Guardiola: “I was really surprised by how well Frank Lampard’s team played”
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola explained why pundits are wrong to say the Premier League is not a three-way race.
The majority view is that the Citizens are the clear favourites for the trophy along with Liverpool, while Tottenham are the most likely club to come closest to the frontrunners.
However, according to Guardiola, any team from the top six has a decent chance. He has marked out Frank Lampard for special praise, noting how surprised he is by the way Chelsea are performing.
“I am really impressed with Chelsea and how they have played against Manchester United and Liverpool. I was really surprised by how well Frank Lampard’s team played.
“And we saw the quality United have up front and the new mood around the club.
“Arsenal have bought good players too, so they are all contenders.”
Could it be just an example of smooth talk from Pep? Or do Chelsea actually have what it takes to fight the likes of City and Liverpool for the whole season?
