JUST IN: Man City Make Shock £170m Bid to Sign Chelsea ‘Superstar’

According to reports, Manchester City could look to make shockwaves in the transfer market in the coming weeks, according to reports – with a £170million bid for Premier League icon Cole Palmer being outright rejected by Chelsea in what would be the league’s record fee by some distance.

Palmer came through City’s academy at the age of seven, making his debut in September 2020 as an eighteen-year-old, but he only made 41 appearances for the club over three seasons, scoring six goals in the process – and none in the Premier League. However, his time at Chelsea has seen him become a genuine ‘superstar’. 25 goals in just 45 games in his first season in west London was followed up by 18 in 52 last season, where he took on a more creative role at the club.

Report: Man City Have £170m Cole Palmer Bid Rejected

With that in mind, the report by Fichajes states that a few weeks ago, City tried making a splash in the transfer market with an offer for former star Palmer, putting over £170million on the table for the Blues hero.

The proposal was rejected outright by Chelsea, who don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £250million, which would annihilate the world record transfer fee that saw Neymar move to Paris Saint-Germain eight years ago.

After their rejection, talks cooled off and the market for Palmer’s move back to the Etihad Stadium seemingly cooled off, with any notion of a switch at a standstill. City’s interest hasn’t faded, though.

Aware of his obvious talent, the Cityzens are even thought to have considered accepting Chelsea’s demands, hoping not to miss out on the opportunity to strengthen their squad with one of the ‘most promising players in Europe’.

The report therefore states that negotiations have gained new life in recent days, with Pep Guardiola’s side prepared to offer a fixed £200million alongside £50million in add-ons to re-sign the star that they sold for just £45million two years ago.

City’s intention to invest heavily in the market and assert their dominance in the Premier League once again, having ended their four-peat run last season after a measly third-placed finish in the top-flight, is clear with Palmer being in their sights over a huge move.

Although they don’t want to lose the England star, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly would see the money as a ‘significant’ financial opportunity, being able to spend that on various other stars to strengthen their squad across the park.
