Chelsea FC legend Ashley Cole has urged his former side to make the move for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell when the transfer window reopens in less than a month’s time.
The Blues have fared impressively under the guidance of Frank Lampard this term but they have been found out on the defensive side of things and have kept just three clean sheets in the Premier League alone.
The left-back spot has been a position which has regularly caught the attention due to the constant swapping of personnel and Cole believes the Blues should swoop for the services of Chilwell at the turn of the year. “I would love to see him at Chelsea. He’s doing really, really well at Leicester. He’s enjoying the way Brendan plays and his system; he’s got that licence to attack,” he told TalkSPORT.
Chilwell, who is valued at £45m, as per Transfermarkt, only penned a new long-term deal with the Foxes towards the end of last year and that sees the Foxes in a comfortable position to keep hold of his services.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has categorically ruled out any player exits next month and Cole has acknowledged that the Blues may have a battle on their hands to prise away the defender during the January transfer window.
“I think he’s quality and I’ve heard he’s a Chelsea fan, too, so I would like to see him here. “Whether he would want to leave, or if Leicester would want to sell him, that’s something the clubs would have to talk about,” he added.
Chilwell has excelled with the Foxes over the past few seasons and in the current campaign, he has bagged one goal and three assists from 13 Premier League matches.
He has also impressed for the England national team and he recently came up with a hat-trick of assists in the 7-0 thumping of Montenegro in a Euro 2020 qualifier last month.
