“A last minute deal to Chelsea” – Journalist confirms Chelsea could make a ‘Shock last minute deal” to secure £59M Transfer

As reported by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Chelsea may try to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho with a “last minute” effort.

The reliable journalist states that the Blues have not yet advanced on the deal following initial discussions, but there remains a possibility of a last-minute rush to obtain the Argentinian international’s signature:

“There have been enquiries from Chelsea [for Garnacho], but we don’t know if it is going to materialise. I would expect it to go down pretty late in the window, and there could be some last-minute deadline activity.”

Garnacho started United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday night, suggesting a transfer away from Old Trafford is not imminent.

What is holding up a move for the United winger?
It does appear as if Chelsea want to get Christopher Nkunku off the club’s books before making an approach for another forward.

There have been reports that the France international may be a player United could target, although it is felt that the Red Devils may only want to sign him on loan.

Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on Nkunku, but any move would depend on Mathys Tel moving in the other direction.

Garnacho’s asking price is pretty steep
Another factor that could have led to Chelsea cooling their interest in the player is United’s valuation. It is believed that they may hold out for around €70m (£59m).

While Garnacho is someone who possesses a great deal of potential, such a fee is currently deemed too high. His record in senior football (23 goals in 120 games) suggests he isn’t worth that much.

Ornstein’s comments that Enzo Maresca’s side may revisit the situation at the end of the transfer window could indicate they are hoping for United to lower their demands.
