“A Swap deal will be good for both parties” – Brentford wants Chelsea attacker in a swap deal with Ivan Toney
Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed Chelsea could have been presented an alternative route to signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney this week.
He told his Substack that he has now heard their fellow Premier League side are interested in a deal to sign Armando Broja if he becomes available.
It has been widely reported that Broja could be surplus to requirements this month when taking into account the reported transfer plans at Stamford Bridge.
It has been widely reported that they are considering a move for a striker this month, with them not being oblivious to their issues on the pitch.
It has been widely claimed that Victor Osimhen is the top target for the Blues, however reports linking them to the addition of Toney have not gone away.
Phillips has now claimed a new avenue to sign the Englishman has emerged in the form of one of their own players.
Chelsea could do swap deal for Toney
He said: “He would have to push for a move, because Brentford are throwing around silly valuations at the moment. I get a feeling he would also need to drop on the signing on fee, because that’s been an issue. He’s open to Chelsea, but as we know, would also love to join Arsenal.
“The trump card that Chelsea could play here, IF they decided they want to go for Toney if the need for a striker this month overpowers everything, is Armando Broja. I understand Brentford are one of the clubs interested in signing Broja.
“All the top outlets have suggested Broja would likely leave if Chelsea sign a new striker this window. Whether he would be interested in Brentford or not remains to be seen, but they are interested, so perhaps Chelsea could sweeten any deal that way.”
Despite finding the net at the weekend in the FA Cup, it still looks unlikely at this point that Broja will have enough to become a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.
