“After five years” – Chelsea wants to re-sign player that left for free to join PSG in 2019
Five years after permitting the goalkeeper to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, Chelsea is eager to welcome Marcin Bulka back to the team this summer.
After joining Chelsea’s academy for three seasons after leaving Polish team Escola Varsovia, Bulka left Stamford Bridge for Paris after his contract expired in 2019. Despite his efforts, Bulka was unable to make an impact in the first team.
However, Bulka was stuck in a similar situation with PSG, making only two appearances in two years. In 2022, the 24-year-old goalie moved to Nice in an attempt to get more playing time.
After a difficult opening year in France, Bulka established himself as Nice’s number one last term, making a big impression between the sticks as the club finished the campaign with the best defensive record in the division – and the fourth best in Europe’s top five leagues.
However, L’Equipe report that Bulka is asking for four times his current salary (€55,000 per month) to sign a new contract at Nice and the Ligue 1 outfit are not willing to satisfy his demands.
It’s claimed Chelsea and AC Milan are both keeping close tabs on the situation and could swoop for the Poland international should an opportunity present itself in the summer transfer window.
Bulka’s current contract at the Allianz Riviera runs through to the summer of 2026.
Chelsea are keen to strengthen their options in goal ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrovic battling it out for minutes last term.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to return from his season-long loan with Real Madrid but the Spaniard is widely expected to depart Chelsea on a permanent transfer this summer.
English trio Jordan Pickford, James Trafford and Aaron Ramsdale have all been mooted as possible solutions for Chelsea, while Villarreal ‘keeper Filip Jorgensen admitted he was flattered to be linked to the Blues this week.
‘It is fun. It shows that I have done something good and done it well,’ Jorgensen told Danish publication Tipsbladet.
‘It is hard to say [about his future]. I just want to get better every day and do the best I can. There is no definite plan.
‘If something good comes up, we can talk about it and look at what is best for me, for Villarreal and everyone involved.’
