Amorim DEMANDS Man Utd sign shock Maresca flop
Turkish media reports that Ruben Amorim has put Yunus Akgun on his shortlist of Manchester United targets.
With his incredible exploits in the Europa League this season, the Galatasaray winger has made a name for himself. When the Turkish powerhouses crushed Tottenham earlier this month, Akgun was unplayable. He presently has four goals in four games in the campaign.
All told, the 24-year-old has netted six times and provided two assists in 16 games across all competitions, adequately filling the massive void left behind by Kerem Akturkoglu when he joined Benfica in the summer.
Even before his stunning display against Spurs, Akgun wasn’t an unfamiliar name to English audiences. The Turkey international spent the previous season on loan at Leicester, but he struggled to make the grade under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, only playing 885 minutes in the Championship over the course of the campaign.
Amorim wants Akgun
Despite the fact that he didn’t leave much of an impression on English football, it is now claimed that new Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim wants to bring him to Old Trafford.
Sabah asserts that the versatile attacker already caught the 39-year-old’s attention at Sporting CP and that the latter has now included him on his shortlist of Man Utd targets.
The Red Devils, it is claimed, have agreed to monitor Akgun’s performances until January after Amorim expressed ‘a positive opinion’ of the player.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the key phrase Amorim used when discussing transfer business was ‘intensity’ and this is certainly one of the traits of Akgun, as exhibited in the Spurs clash when Galatasaray’s intense pressing suffocated their English opponents.
Whether the 24-year-old has the necessary quality to perform in the Premier League is a different question. He seems a rather surprising target for the Red Devils, to say the least.
