The former England international has had to make a last-minute change against Norwich to keep the Spaniard out of the lineup after he suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up at Carrow Road.
But Lampard now has suggested that Pedro is again set to miss their next against Chris Wilder’s side as well after being advised to take at least a two-week break from competitive action.
Pedro thus will also miss Spain’s international match against Romania and Faroe Island.
“Pedro picked up a hamstring injury and we will assess the severity of it over the next couple of days, but I think it will be tough for him to be back for next week at first glance,” Lampard told the official club website.
“We obviously then have the international break, so that might help, but we will be trying to get him back as quickly as possible because he’s an important player.”
Kante who also missed the match against Norwich due an injury is also likely to be given a rest after Lampard suggests that he is not in a rush to call him back to the side. However, also made a plea to the French side not to include him in the coming international break.
FIFA’s mandated international breaks are barely applauded by any club’s fans but this one surely comes at a pretty good time for the Blues.
No fewer than five players are expected to be making their returns from various injuries once the break is over, including Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, and the aforementioned pair of Kante and Pedro.
