Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly told the club he wants to sign Manchester United target Moussa Dembele. The Frenchman’s stock has risen significantly since his £20million move from Celtic last year, having netted 29 goals in 62 appearances across all competitions.

His performances and goals have attracted interested from United boss Ole Gyunnar Solskjaer, who is reportedly keen to add some fire-power to his youthful attack, and reportedly sees Dembele as a very good investment for the club. But According to Sky Sports, Frank Lampard has been keeping tabs on Dembele’s progress for some time and has likened the forward to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in private.

Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi, who have both struggled for regular minutes this term, are expected to be on their way out of Stamford Bridge this winter – and Lampard is determined to bring in replacements to ease the pressure on academy product Tammy Abraham. However, Chelsea will struggle to convince Dembele to join them from Lyon, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, he said: “For Chelsea it would certainly be a very, very good move if they can get Moussa Dembele who is a proven goalscorer and very, very similar to Tammy Abraham as well.

“Whether they can persuade Dembele to come to Stamford Bridge on the basis that he would be No 2. “They would have to sell it to him as well: ‘Look, if you’re better than Abraham then obviously you start’.

“And of course this was the problem that Arsenal had in trying to sign Dembele from Celtic before he moved to Lyon, i.e. they couldn’t guarantee him a starting place and Dembele chose, against Celtic’s wishes, to stay at Parkhead because he knew he’d be the No 1 striker.

“So that’s going to be a complex negotiation in terms of the player personally but not in terms of finances. ”There is no doubt that Chelsea do need to add another striker to their squad in the next few weeks and Dembele is certainly a young man that has the capability to shine at Stamford Bridge. He may not be the big named SUMER STAR THAT FANS WOULD LIKE, but he is a special kind of player.
