“Breaking 12years curse” – Enzo Maresca reacts to Chelsea breaking insane 12 years curse after 2-1 win over West Ham
Chelsea were very poor in the first half against West Ham tonight. They dominated the ball, but it was dull, sterile possession. They took no chances on the ball, and really deserved to be caught out by West Ham before half time for their sheer lack of ambition.
On commentary, Gary Neville called it “pathetic football.” But after half time they regrouped and got into gear, and ended up winning the game, thanks to a few big slices of luck.
We saw a stat doing the rounds at full time that claimed that this was the first time Chelsea had won a game they were trailing at half time at Stamford Bridge since December 2013. To refresh your memory and point out just how long ago that was, that game saw John Terry scoring on his 400th appearance to turn the game around.
That sounds so crazy that we just couldn’t believe it – we were racking our brains trying to think of an example of that happening. But we couldn’t come up with anything.

🤯Chelsea have won a home Premier League game when trailing at half-time for the first time since December 1, 2013 after beating Southampton 3-1, after a 2-1 win over West Ham United in the 2024/25 Premier League.
In the press conference afterwards, the same stat was put to Enzo Maresca. He made the same face we did – total shock. He claimed that he could think of occasions even this season where we had come back to win – but in those games either we weren’t playing at home or we had equalised before half time.
We knew we’d been through some tough times but still, that’s pretty amazing. It feels like something a big team should be doing at least once a year. Sound off in the comments if you find one and work out that this stat is actually a hoax, we still can’t get our heads around it…
