The blues ready to improve their attacking options in January. One of the latest names to be mentioned is Bayer Leverkusen wide-man Leon Bailey (Daily Telegraph). Here is why the Blues should consider signing the exciting winger in January.
The Jamaican plays on the left side of a front three and has several attributes that will appeal to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea team. He possesses excellent dribbling ability and natural speed, making him a nightmare for defenders.
In just five starts for the German side in 2019/20, Bailey has scored three goals and has one assist. Most recently, he scored an impressive double to earn his side all three points against Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich.
At just 22-years-old, Bailey would be an investment in the future. Whilst he could make an instant impact on the Chelsea attack, he will only improve in years to come as his final product becomes more consistent.
His ability with both feet is something that certainly increases the value he will add to the Chelsea attack. The Jamaican can pass, cross or shoot with either foot, which makes him extremely unpredictable for defenders.
The price Leverkusen want for Bailey is likely to go a long way to deciding whether or not he is a target worth pursuing. In 2018, it was reported that anyone interested in the winger would need to pay upwards of £44.75 million (Talksport).
Leverkusen may want even more for Bailey if they are to part with him in the middle of the season. The 22-year-old is exactly the kind of player the Chelsea attack is missing, and the ability to conjure something up out of nothing makes him an interesting target for Lampard.
