According to Daily Mail, Dries Mertens is increasingly likely to leave Napoli in the summer as a free agent after failing to agree a new deal with the Italian club.
Reports from Italy claim Mertens wants €7.5million (£6.3m) per year for two seasons, but Napoli’s current proposal is stuck at €4m (£3.3m) plus another €1m (£845,000) in performance-related bonuses.
Chelsea tried to sign the 32 year old striker during the January transfer window but had a £6million bid for the Belgian rejected.
Mertens opted against leaving Napoli in January as he was close to becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
He is currently just three goals short of breaking Hamsik’s scoring record of 121 goals for the club.
