The blues had their transfer ban lifted last week by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This means that we are now free to sign any players in the upcoming transfer window of January and Lampard is interested to strengthen the Blues team.
The reason Chelsea are now more interested in Wilfried Zaha and not Jadon Sancho is because Sancho’s departure from Dortmund doesn’t seem too likely presently.
On the other hand, Zaha had expressed his wish to move to Arsenal and leave Crystal Palace last summer. However, Arsenal had instead gone for Nicholas Pepe.
Zaha’s interest grew more in Everton after Arsenal, but the club couldn’t pay the high fee attached to his valuation – 80 million euros.
Clearly, Zaha is still keen on a change from Selhurst Park and his transfer opportunities look more likely than that of Sancho.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard knows that there are some great players like Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount on his team. However, he is interested in expanding the skillset.
Crystal Palace will allow Zaha to make a change in January, as long as the price of 80 million euros for him is give. For this, Chelsea surely won’t have a problem shelling out, especially after the funds gained after Hazard’s move to Real Madrid last year.
