BREAKING: Chelsea star to contend for Ballon d’Or

Chelsea haven’t had a Ballon d’Or contender since Frank Lampard in 2005, as the Chelsea star was beaten to the award by Barcelona legend Ronaldinho.

While Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk are all contending for the men’s category this year, Chelsea Women latest signing Sam Kerr is in contention for the award in the women’s category.

Sam Kerr was named America’s National Women’s Soccer League Most Valuable Player after scoring 19 goals in 23 games for Chicago Red Stars from April to September.

The 26-year-old has been hailed has a valuable signing and is seen as the golden girl of the Australian women’s team.

The Australian striker will face huge competition from Lyon right-back Lucy Bronze, Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema and Reign FC winger Megan Rapinoe for the Ballon d’Or award.

Kerr will team up with her new teammates in January. Meanwhile, former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was delighted with Kerr’s move to Chelsea last month.

Ronaldo took to his Instagram story to hail Kerr for sealing a move to Chelsea.
