Tammy Abraham is set for a new contract offer which would more than double his £50,000-a-week wages, the Telegraph’s Matt Law reports.
According to the top-tier source, Chelsea were going to start the talks even before the 21-year-old put two goals in Norwich’s net on Saturday. Nevertheless, Tammy’s brace has only strengthened their resolve.
Two years ago, Abraham signed a long-term deal which will run out in 2022.
With Callum Hudson-Odoi injured, the striker is the lowest earner in the current Chelsea squad, after Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount have extended their deals this summer to pocket £150,000 and £77,000 a week, respectively.
There is no urgency in the contract talks with Abraham, however, as the forward has made it clear he is fulfilling his dream by playing and scoring for his boyhood club.
Another player who has been earmarked for a new contract for quite some time is Reece James who is completing his recovery to become Cesar Azpilicueta’s deputy right-back.
As for Hudson-Odoi, there are contradictory reports on the terms of his new deal but with his current agreement expiring in less than a year, the announcement is widely expected in the near future.
