Former Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole has claimed that he “would love to see” the Blues secure the services of Leicester City key man Ben Chilwell to the club.
Having had their transfer suspension lifted, the Blues are expected to be active next month in order to push their run in the Premier League and remain in top-four, while they have also managed to qualify for the 1/8 round of the Champions League draw.
Chilwell is believed to be a main transfer target for the West London club with neither Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso holding down the left-back spot during the opening months of the 2019-20 season.
Ashley Cole, who has played 338 games for the West London club in all competitions, has urged his ex-club to attempt to secure the services of the England international defender when the transfer window will be re-opened in January.
“I would love to see him at Chelsea,” Cole told talkSPORT. “He’s doing really, really well at Leicester. He’s enjoying the way Brendan [Rodgers] plays and his system; he’s got that licence to attack. “When he’s played for England he’s played well – in his last game he got three assists. He’s shown quality not just on the ball, but one-on-one he can defend and he likes to defend.
“I think he’s quality and I’ve heard he’s a Chelsea fan, too, so I would like to see him here. Whether he would want to leave, or if Leicester would want to sell him, that’s something the clubs would have to talk about.”
Chilwell, who has a deal at the King Power Stadium until June 2024, has managed to found back of the net once and provided three assists in 13 Premier League games for the Foxes this season.
