Reports claimed that Chelsea have made an offer for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
And according to Sky Sports, Chelsea’s offer is believed to be an 18-month loan with an obligation to buy for £55 million and it is dependent on the Portugal international midfielder playing at least 50 per cent of games during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, it’s now being reported that Gedson Fernandes is set to join West Ham from Benfica after the two clubs finally came to an agreement over the terms of a deal.
The Chelsea target is poised to fly to London in the coming days to seal the 18-month loan move.
According to reports, the Hammers have been in negotiations with the Portuguese giants for some time over Fernandes and the Hammers initially saw a loan bid with the obligation to sign Fernandes for £33m turned down by Benfica.
Chelsea then raised the stakes as they tabled a similar offer with the fee amounting to as much as £55m. Telegraph’s Matt Law had questioned Chelsea’s interest in the Portuguese and insists that the Blues have other priorities than in that position.
All being equal, the box-to-box midfielder will play at the London Stadium until June 2021.
