BREAKING: Lionel Messi’s Mason Mount declaration is coming true after Chelsea win over Crystal Palace

Lionel Messi’s Mason Mount prediction has come true before our very eyes.

The Barcelona legend and scorer of 674 career club goals is not one to offer praise to talented youngsters lightly – but did predict Mount’s stellar rise to become one of Chelsea’s most important players.

Messi was previously asked to name 15 prodigies who he believes can be the future of the game, for a Topps ‘Lionel Messi-Designed Set’ card pack.

And along with Chelsea star Mount, he named Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden.

“Having watched him play, he has the potential to be one of the best,” Messi said on Mount.

Messi’s declaration has proven to be accurate, as the Chelsea midfielder continues to impress for the Blues this season.

During Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace, Mount was once again one of the stars of the show as he helped his side to a 4-1 win at Selhurst Park.

The 22-year-old chipped in with an assist for his side’s all-important third goal, crossing expertly onto the head of defender Kurt Zouma.

But he also played a central role in the afternoon’s other goals, with Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech getting in on the act.

Mount’s recent Premier League performances have helped to make him a starter for England, destined for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s delayed Euro 2020 championships.

The summer transfer window is just around the corner.

And the rumour mill is already starting to pick up speed.

New Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel will surely be looking to strengthen the squad he was given when he took over from Frank Lampard and there have already been a number of top players linked with a move, including Erling Haaland.

The striker is thought to be the Blues’ number on transfer priority.

“I can only repeat that he has the right mentality and attitude towards training and games,” said Thomas Tuchel. “He has the right attitude towards success. He has both feet on the ground, is open and hungry to learn.

“Mason is an important and key player for us and I am happy he fits into this role at a young age. It is good to have him.
