BREAKING: Todd Boehly faces allegations of ‘fraudulent’ actions

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is facing allegations of “fraudulent” actions linked to his 2023 takeover of the Golden Globes, claims his team has dismissed as baseless and defamatory.

Former members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) have accused Boehly of conflicts of interest and manipulating the takeover process, which came after the Globes faced significant backlash over ethical issues and lack of diversity.

Critics claim Boehly, acting as both buyer and seller, pressured HFPA members to approve the deal while sidelining competing bids and dismissing dissenters. However, sources close to Boehly insist he adhered to legal protocols and spearheaded reforms that have revitalised the Golden Globes, including expanding the voting panel to 334 members from diverse backgrounds.

A spokesperson for Boehly’s team labelled the accusations as baseless attempts to tarnish his reputation, emphasising his efforts to address the HFPA’s historical controversies.

The California Attorney General’s office is currently reviewing the matter but has not launched a formal investigation. Boehly’s supporters argue the changes under his leadership have transformed the Globes into a more inclusive and respected institution, despite ongoing criticism.
