BREAKING: Zappacosta set for medical ahead of Roma loan move
Davide Zappacosta is scheduled to undergo a medical on Wednesday before finalising his loan move to Roma, Sky Sports reports.
Earlier, top-tier transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea and Roma have agreed a deal for the Italian full-back who is evidently surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is keen to give a chance to Reece James, an encouraging talent from the club academy, to become Cesar Azpilicueta’s deputy at the right-back, a role previously occupied by Zappacosta.
The Gialorossi allegedly can’t afford to buy the defender at this time as Chelsea asking price is too high.
However, Roma are in dire need of a right-back, so they have offered a compromise.
Chelsea wanted €25m for the player. Instead, the Serie A side took Zappacosta on a loan with a buy-out clause included.
