Cahill: I would have stayed if i knew Lampard will be the next Chelsea Head coach
Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admitted regret that Frank Lampard came to the Blues as a manager only a year too late.
Cahill has left Stamford Bridge this summer after a miserable season with Maurizio Sarri at the helm.
The Italian treated the veteran as a reserves player and never wanted to give him an opportunity to prove himself.
Gary Cahill said: “It’s a shame Lampard wasn’t in last year when I was there.
“No, I’m only joking. It would have been very interesting to work under him, especially when you’ve played with him and know what he’s like, it would have been an experience I would have relished.
“Leaving Chelsea was sad, but naturally everything has to come to an end. It was certainly the right time for me to go from that club and I have nothing but positive things to say about the club.”
Cahill joined Crystal Palace as a free agent in the summer.
